Wanted: Medicare EOBs

Our chapter is planning a community outreach program to help educate Medicare patients about their insurance.   We are hoping to have a presentation (by Wendy Grant, CPC - Member Development Officer) and time to talk one-on-one with patients about their EOBs.  We will hold the "seminar" at a senior center, library, or similar location.  Wendy is working on the presentation and is in need of Medicare EOBs from your friends or family.  We will make copies and all identifying information will be removed.  Or you may send us copies with the identifying information already removed.  If there are secondary insurances, those EOBs would be great too.  If you have EOBs to donate, please contact us.  When the presentation is ready, we'll put a call out for volunteers to help patients look over their EOBs.  This will be an excellent community service and definitely a highlight on our Chapter of the Year nomination form!

Excellent Meeting Turnout!

Thanks to everyone that came to tonight's meeting.  We had lots of members in attendance and it was great!  Dr. Brian Hughes enlightened us on colon cancer and we enjoyed snacks and door prizes.  I've taken pictures at 2 meetings so far and they are all blurry.  I think we could use a meeting photographer!

Here are the colonoscopy videos we watched tonight - by the divine Ms. Butt Meddler!

If you attended tonight's meeting, we would be so happy if you would complete a short survey for us...

Don't forget - Dr. Brian Hughes will tell us everything we need to know about colon cancer tomorrow afternoon at 5:30pm.  March is colorectal cancer awareness month!  We're starting early so that we'll be aware of the upcoming awareness month.  Be one of the first at the meeting for a special awareness prize.  Put your name in the hat (sack) for one of four door prizes too.  The chapter is providing snacks from Chick-Fil-A and the above pictured tasty cookies and more.  Bring a snack to share if you can!  And yes, there will be at least one YouTube video.

Friendly Competition

Your 2013 officers have entered you into a little friendly competition.  It's the Little Rock chapter VS the UAMS chapter!  What do we have to do to win?  Volunteer!  Yep, it's that easy to crush the competition.  Just sign-up & show up at the Arkansas Rice Depot on Saturday, May 18th at 9am.  We'll do some volunteering until noon and then we can all go out to lunch.  The competition details are still in the works, but the winner will be the chapter with the most volunteers.  This will be a great way to make new friends and do good things for the people of Arkansas.

More info to come, so stay tuned!

Importance of E Codes - January Meeting

Can you find 2 E codes that would help describe how this person got a nasty burn?  We'll be learning about the importance of E codes (external cause codes) at our upcoming meeting on Thursday, January 3rd at 11:30am.  Don't forget, we're meeting at Practice Plus, 11001 Executive Center Drive, Little Rock, 72211.  We'll also play a fun game of E Code Pictionary so we can familiarize ourselves with all the great E codes we have available to us.  Bring your ICD-9 books and check your reality-meter at the door.

Did I mention door prizes?
